Healthy Volunteers Needed for Hand and Heart Imaging Study

If you are a healthy individual who is at least 18 years of age and willing to undergo PET/CT imaging, you may be eligible to participate in a free and confidential study that is being conducted by Dr. Monique Hinchcliff and Dr. Edward Miller. The purpose of this study is to develop tools to quantify heart and hand microvascular (small vessel) disease in patients with systemic sclerosis to better understand disease progression. Study procedures include an EndoPAT assessment to measure finger blood pressure, and PET/CT testing, which is a heart scan currently used to measure disease in the blood vessels of the heart.
Participants will be compensated $200 for their time.

Trial Purpose and Description
Heart dysfunction is a leading cause of systemic sclerosis (SSc)-related deaths, and 95% of patients with SSc also have Raynaud phenomenon while 18-49% of SSc patients manifest calcinosis cutis. 82Rb PET/CT imaging has emerged as the gold standard imaging modality for quantification of cardiac microvascular disease, but to date, no studies have been conducted to assess the utility of 82Rb PET/CT for quantification of Raynaud phenomenon in patients with SSc. We hypothesize that 82Rb PET/DECT is a useful approach for quantification of all three SSc-associated disease processes (heart and hand microvascular disease and hand calcinosis cutis). Study participants with (1) SSc and Raynaud phenomenon, or (2) SSc, Raynaud phenomenon and calcinosis cutis, and (3) healthy participants will be recruited for this study. SSc Participants will complete a patient-reported outcome instruments (PROMIS-29, FACIT-Dyspnea, Raynaud Condition Score) and be given instructions for the EndoPat and PET/DECT testing. Study participants will also undergo an EndoPat test followed by 82Rb PET/DECT scanning at the Yale Clinical Nuclear Cardiology Laboratory.
