Skull Base Surgery

Definition

Skull base surgery is a specialized surgical approach that involves the removal of tumors and cysts or repair of cerebral aneurysm or cerebrospinal fluid fistulas, and other malformations located at the base of the skull (the skull base) and the top vertebrae of the spinal column. This type of surgery often requires a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, including a neurosurgeon, ear, nose, and throat surgeon, opthamologist, oncologist, and plastic surgeon.
