Biography

As the director of the Yale Medicine Breast Radiotherapy Program and professor of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale University School of Medicine, Meena Moran, MD, is committed to not only helping her own patients but all breast cancer patients. “My passion lies with providing patients with individualized care, along with improving the standard of care in the field of breast cancer management as a whole,” says Dr. Moran.

An internationally known expert, she is frequently invited to lecture worldwide, educating physicians about state-of-the-art breast cancer treatment. In addition, she has served on numerous panels to develop guidelines and standards for breast health care. She is a panel member for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and a founding board member of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. She has published numerous book chapters and journal articles pertaining to her research on radiation techniques, predictors of relapse, and ethnic variations in breast cancer.

In her work as a Yale Medicine doctor, she has standardized breast cancer radiotherapy treatment throughout all of Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Centers. As a result, breast cancer patients can be certain they are receiving the same level of treatment. “All of our breast cancer cases across all our sites are presented and reviewed weekly at our breast team meeting,” says Dr. Moran, “and this is an important initiative so that patients can be assured of getting the best care, regardless of which treatment facility they go to.”

Because breast radiation is not only a local treatment modality, but also has long-term effects on improving survival in general, the radiation a breast cancer patient receives is a critical part of treatment, says Dr. Moran. “I am confident that with our integrated breast program across our all our sites, our Yale Medicine breast radiation doctors are delivering the highest level of care available to all of our breast cancer patients."
