Biography

Jonathan Grauer, MD, is an orthopedic/spine surgeon who specializes in treating conditions that affect the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. These include disk herniations, degenerative conditions, scoliosis, trauma, infections and tumors, among other problems.

Dr. Grauer is the director of the Yale Orthopaedic Spine Service and a codirector of the Yale New Haven Hospital Spine Center. Through a multidisciplinary approach at the Spine Center, the team there works to optimize the care of patients with spine conditions. This approach has helped many people get a quicker diagnosis, and optimize nonsurgical and surgical outcomes.

Dr. Grauer uses surgical techniques to provide his patients with the best care possible. “My goal is always to meet the patient’s individual needs through evaluation and treatment, so they will feel well enough to return to an active, pain-free life,” he says.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Grauer is a professor and interim chair of the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine, where he also serves as vice chair of clinical research. He and his research team strive to analyze and optimize patient outcomes after surgical interventions. For this work, he and his team have received awards, lectured broadly, and authored over 180 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 70 reviews and 70 book chapters. He is also active on the review boards of multiple journals and sits on committees of multiple organizations.
