Biography
Gary Altwerger, MD, is a gynecologic oncologist specializing in the treatment of cancers of the uterus, ovaries, and vulva. He uses minimally invasive surgical techniques, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy to deliver personalized treatment.
In his role as an assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Altwerger is committed to advancing the field of gynecologic oncology. His research focuses on finding new ways to treat cancers that are resistant to traditional therapies and assisting patients who experience allergic reactions to chemotherapy. He is actively involved in clinical trials aimed at testing new treatments for challenging cancer cases.
Dr. Altwerger has also developed innovative methods for removing tumors in the upper abdomen, an area that presents significant complexity and risk. "My goal is to make gynecologic oncology a benchmark for excellence in cancer care," he says.
He received his medical degree from the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship at Yale University.
