Biography

As a radiation oncologist, Bruce McGibbon, MD, often faces the difficult job of determining the best treatment approach for cancer patients but considers it an honor to be able to offer help. “I care deeply about cancer patients and their families,” he explains, “and I am fortunate to practice a specialty that allows me the ability to help cure cancer and palliate symptoms.”

The director of radiosurgery at Yale Medicine’s Radiation Oncology Center in Trumbull, Dr. McGibbon treats many forms of cancer, including breast, prostate, lung, rectal, head and neck, and primary and metastatic brain cancers. “My practice offers all the latest techniques, while still providing the convenience and extra attention of a community center,” he says.

Dr. McGibbon, who is board certified in radiation oncology, is also an assistant professor of therapeutic radiology at Yale School of Medicine. There he conducts research on improving quality of life for cancer patients with radiation therapy treatment. “I am most excited about the further applications of short-course radiation therapy using stereotactic techniques,” he notes.

He strives to provide the best care for his patients every day. “When patients feel comfortable, listened to, and cared for, then I know that I'm really making a positive difference in their lives,” he says
