Biography

Babar Khokhar, MD, MBA, strives to offer hope to his patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He provides a patient experience that is both comforting and optimistic. “I want to provide the support and tools available for my patients in their journey to fight this unrelenting neurodegenerative disease,” he says. “Although there is no cure at this time, my approach is to give patients the opportunity to prolong survival with all available options.”

Even though he is also a director for Yale Medicine’s ambulatory services, neurology outpatient clinics and MDA-ALS/Motor Neuron Disease Clinic, Dr. Khokhar finds time to connect with every patient. As part of his clinic’s unique service of providing home visits for patients with end-stage disease, he says he still makes monthly house calls.

An assistant professor of neurology at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Khokhar also uses his award-winning clinical skills to treat patients with such other neurological conditions as motor neuron disease, primary lateral sclerosis, progressive bulbar palsy, headaches and neuropathy. “My goal is to take care of patients coping with an extremely difficult terminal illness and tell them that they are not alone,” he says.
