Trial Purpose and Description

The primary investigational aim of this study is to determine whether increasing genetic dose of schizophrenia-associated risk alleles at the C4 gene are associated (negatively correlated) with regional synaptic density in the living human brain as measured by 11C-UCB-J PET. 


Eligibility Criteria

1) This research study is designed to explore how genetics, specifically the schizophrenia risk gene complement component 4 (C4), influences synaptic density. This relationship will be explored in the brain’s prefrontal cortex, an area important in decision-making and impulsivity. In this study subjects will participate in one 11C-UCB-J Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan and one structural and functional resting state Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan.
