Zika virus is a mosquito-borne viral infection primarily transmitted by the Aedes species of mosquitoes. It can also be transmitted through sexual contact, blood transfusion, and from a pregnant woman to her fetus. In most cases, the infection causes mild symptoms, but it can lead to severe birth defects in unborn children and neurological complications in adults.
