Critical Care Anesthesiology
We care for patients in the various intensive care units (ICUs) at Yale New Haven Hospital. Our physicians are board-certified in both anesthesiology and critical care medicine, and many have added qualifications in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), which uses sound waves to produce pictures of a patient’s heart. We provide care for patients undergoing complex surgical procedures or major vascular and thoracic surgery, as well as trauma and transplant patients. We perform ventricular assistance device implantations, coronary artery bypass grafting, as well as thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair. In the Medical ICU, we care for a wide spectrum of patients, including those with sepsis, pneumonia, and stroke.Neurocritical Care & Emergency Neurology
The Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) at Yale New Haven Hospital aims to provide the most sophisticated, empathic care possible to critically ill patients with nervous system injuries. Staffed by an expert team of neurointensivists, the ICU employs state-of-the-art technology to provide the most advanced patient care available. Also available are a portable CT scanner and 24/7 access to an interventional neuro-angio suite that can also be used as a neurosurgical operating room with an intraoperative MRI.Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
Yale has long experience in caring for the most vulnerable pediatric patients. In the early 1960s, a Yale physician started the world’s first newborn intensive care unit (NICU), recognizing that such young patients needed their own space with dedicated resources in order to deliver the best and safest care. Today, our skilled physicians, who are trained in both pediatrics and critical care medicine, work quickly to stabilize, evaluate, and treat infants, children, and adolescents with life-threatening medical and surgical problems. We collaborate with pediatric and surgical specialists, as well as those in diagnostic and therapeutic radiology, to bring a multidisciplinary approach to critical care. Our medical and nursing staff are close to our patients at all times. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit multidisciplinary team includes pediatric critical care attending physicians and fellows, pediatric residents, advanced practice nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, child life specialists, case managers, social workers, and nutritionists. The team works around the clock to ensure attentive care to infants, children, and teens recovering from catastrophic illness, trauma, or surgery.
