Definition

Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection that typically affects children but can occur in people of all ages. It is characterized by red sores or blisters that can break open, ooze fluid, and develop a yellow-brown crust. Impetigo is caused by Streptococcus or Staphylococcus bacteria and can spread through close contact or by touching contaminated objects.
