Definition
Hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar, is a condition characterized by an abnormally high level of glucose in the bloodstream. It is commonly associated with diabetes but can also occur in other medical conditions or situations. If left untreated, hyperglycemia can lead to serious complications, such as diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state.
