Definition

Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting, primarily affecting the skeletal muscles in the shoulders, upper arms, and lower legs. It is also associated with joint contractures and cardiac abnormalities, such as conduction defects and arrhythmias.
