Clostridium difficile (C. diff) is a bacterial infection that causes inflammation of the colon, leading to diarrhea and more severe intestinal conditions such as colitis. It is often associated with antibiotic use, which can disrupt the normal balance of bacteria in the gut, allowing C. diff to multiply and produce toxins.
