Liza Konnikova, MD, PhD, FAAP

Neonatal - Perinatal Medicine

Biography

Liza Konnikova, MD, PhD, is a specialist in neonatal-perinatal medicine who cares for newborns facing challenges such as: premature birth; necrotizing enterocolitis, a severe intestinal disease causing tissue death; and sepsis, a critical response to infection that can result in tissue damage and organ failure.

As an associate professor of pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Konnikova studies how the immune system develops in early life, including the ways microorganisms and their natural products shape fetal and infant immune responses to environmental challenges. She aims to translate these findings into more effective therapies that encourage healthy growth and help prevent complications in vulnerable infants.

Dr. Konnikova completed her medical training at Tufts University School of Medicine and pursued residency and fellowship in pediatrics and neonatology at Boston Children’s Hospital.
