Karin Finberg, MD, PhD
Biography
Karin Finberg, MD, PhD, is a pathologist who specializes in using genetic sequencing techniques, also called molecular diagnostics, to diagnose diseases in patients. In the lab, “we test everything—all kinds of tumor types,” Dr. Finberg says. “We are also looking for genetic changes that could make a patient eligible for a clinical trial,” she says.
“Being able to use a technology to potentially match a patient to a treatment is something we couldn’t do just a few years ago,” Dr. Finberg says. “We are finding broader ways to treat diseases and coming up with more options for patients.”
Dr. Finberg divides her time between clinical work and research into iron metabolism, seeking to understand what happens when the body absorbs too much iron, or not enough of it. At Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Finberg is an assistant professor of pathology.
