Emotional development in infants at risk for ASD

Who? 

• Pregnant mothers who have a family member with autism
• Newborns and infants under the age of 4 months who have a family member with autism

What?

• Studies of social, emotional, and cognitive development from birth through 24 months

Why?

• Discover processes contributing to development of autism in infants and help to improve their long-term outcomes

What Else?

• This study is free of cost to families
• Families are compensated up to $250 for study participation

Eligibility criteria:

Male and female infants under the age of 4 months who have a first- or second-degree family member with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). 

Inclusion criteria:

• Gestational age (GA) at birth between 34-42 weeks 
• Appropriate weight for GA at birth

Exclusion criteria:

• GA below 34 weeks
• Congenital infections, non-febrile seizure disorder, hearing loss, visual impairment, any identified chromosomal abnormality
• Prenatal exposure to illicit drugs
• Familial history of any major psychotic disorder in first-degree relatives 

Eligibility for participation in study will be determined by intake interview with lab staff, including review of ASD diagnosis in the family member.
