Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is a surgical procedure used to treat urinary problems caused by an enlarged prostate. During the procedure, a surgeon inserts a a specialized instrument called a resectoscope through the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body) and removes excess prostate tissue, thereby relieving pressure on the urethra and improving urine flow.
