Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)

Definition

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a rare, life-threatening condition caused by the release of toxins from an overgrowth of bacteria, typically Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. It can affect various organ systems and lead to severe complications, such as organ failure and shock. TSS is often associated with tampon use, skin infections, or surgical wounds.
