Sleep Paralysis

Definition

Sleep paralysis is a temporary inability to move or speak that occurs when a person is waking up or falling asleep. It is thought to be related to the disruption of the sleep cycle, particularly the transition between rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and wakefulness. Although it can be a frightening experience, sleep paralysis is generally harmless and resolves on its own within a few minutes.
