Retinal Laser Surgery, Laser Photocoagulation

Definition

Retinal laser surgery, also known as laser photocoagulation, is a medical treatment that uses a focused beam of light to create small burns on the retina. This procedure is used to treat various retinal conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, and age-related macular degeneration. The goal of the treatment is to prevent further vision loss by sealing leaking blood vessels, repairing retinal tears, or reducing abnormal blood vessel growth.
