Refractive Lens Exchange

Definition

Refractive lens exchange (RLE) is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the eye's natural lens and replacing it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to correct refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. This procedure is similar to cataract surgery but is performed primarily for vision correction rather than treating cataracts.
