Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

Definition

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to treat coronary artery disease by improving blood flow to the heart. It involves the insertion of a catheter with a balloon at its tip into the narrowed or blocked coronary artery. The balloon is then inflated to widen the artery and restore blood flow, often followed by the placement of a stent to keep the artery open.
