Pancreatitis

Definition

Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas, an organ responsible for producing digestive enzymes and hormones that regulate the processing of sugar. It occurs when the digestive enzymes become activated within the pancreas, causing inflammation. Pancreatitis can be acute, occurring suddenly and lasting for a short period, or chronic, developing over time and causing long-term damage to the pancreas.
