Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) is a rare type of thyroid cancer that originates from the parafollicular C cells in the thyroid gland. These cells produce calcitonin, a hormone involved in calcium regulation. MTC can be sporadic or hereditary, and it is often more aggressive than other types of thyroid cancer.
