Fragile X Syndrome

Definition

Fragile X syndrome is a genetic disorder characterized by a range of developmental problems, including intellectual disabilities, learning impairments, and behavioral issues. It is caused by a mutation in the FMR1 gene on the X chromosome, which leads to a deficiency of the fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP). This protein is essential for normal brain development and function.
