Diverticulitis

Definition

Diverticulitis is an inflammatory condition that occurs when small pouches called diverticula, which most commonly form in the walls of the lower part of the large intestine (colon), become infected or inflamed. This can cause severe abdominal pain, fever, and changes in bowel habits. Diverticulitis is a common complication of diverticulosis, a condition where multiple diverticula are present.
