Cortical Mapping

Definition

Cortical mapping is a diagnostic procedure that involves the identification and localization of functional areas within the cerebral cortex. This process is crucial for understanding brain functions and planning neurosurgical interventions, such as tumor resection or epilepsy surgery. Various techniques, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electrocorticography (ECoG), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), can be used to perform cortical mapping.
