Chiari malformation is a structural abnormality in which the cerebellum, the lower part of the brain, protrudes through the opening at the base of the skull and into the spinal canal. This can result in compression of the brainstem and spinal cord, disrupting normal cerebrospinal fluid circulation and leading to various neurological symptoms.
