Bronchitis

Definition

Bronchitis is an inflammatory condition affecting the bronchial tubes, which carry air from the trachea (windpipe) to the lungs. The swelling and irritation of these tubes leads to increased mucus production, cough, and shortness of breath. Bronchitis can be caused by viral or bacterial infections, exposure to irritants, or underlying medical conditions. It can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term).
